Red Fox

Red Fox - Kentwood, Louisiana

I was whitetail deer hunting and climbed into the deer stand at around 5:30 am. At 6:44 am, I saw a red fox running out of the woods at 130 yards. I have seen a red fox only once before over the past decade. The red fox ran across a cut field of hay and looked like it was catching and eating grass-hoppers or crickets in the field. For around 15 minutes, the red fox ran all over the 12 acre field hunting its breakfast. The red fox ran back into the woods and came out into a shooting lane to investigate a mixed pile of corn and apple flavored rice bran. The red fox then ran down into the hollow and was later observed running across the 12 acre field again.

I saw the red fox again on Friday morning, November 23, 2007. The red fox was hunting for food, but didn't hang around as long as on Monday, November 19, 2007.
